Worship Ministry
“And they devoted themselves ... to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Everyone was filled with awe …. They continued to meet together in the temple courts … praising God”
Acts 2:42-47
Purpose
The worship ministry of the church is devoted to leading the body of Christ into God-centered worship that elicits a response of both awe (Psalm 46:10) and exuberance (Psalm 98:4) toward God by means ofthe scriptures (1 Tim 4:13), prayer (1 Tim 2:1-2), song (Col 3:16), preaching (1 Cor 14:26), and giving (1 Chron 29:14-17) for the purpose of edifying the members (1 Cor 14:26), urging them into a lifestyle of worship (Rom 12:1), and drawing them and others unto Christ (John 12:32).
Church Member Responsibilities:
Though not every member is gifted by the Spirit to be a be an exhorter/encourager (Rom 12:8), every member is to be a worshipper of God (John 4:23-24). Thus, as the members of the first church “devoted themselves” to the discipleship ministry, members of this church shall devote themselves to this ministry as either worshippers or as exhorters/encouragers so gifted by the Spirit.
Lead Team
This team will consist of church members who are spiritually gifted in this area (Exhortation, Words of wisdom and knowledge, Prophecy, etc.). The team will also consist of the the appointed deacon(s), who may be a lead team member, but at the least function(s) as a helper and observer. The pastor shall function as the elder/overseer of this team (1 Peter 5:1-5).
Areas of Assignment for the Worship Ministry
1) Sunday Worship
a. Sundays of remembrance
i. Christmas
ii. Easter
iii. Sanctity of Life Sunday
iv. Etc.
b. Sundays of observance
i. Baptism
ii. Lord’s Supper
2) Weekly Prayer meeting
3) Conduct quarterly or as-needed meetings to evaluate current worship activities, determine and address specific needs in the ministry, and plan future worship activities. The appointed deacon will then present the evaluations at the next deacon’s meeting. The leader of this team will then present their scheduled activities at the next ministry council.
Procedure:
Appropriately gifted church members may volunteer for or be recruited to the lead team of the worship ministry. Each member who does so shall commit to a one-year term that is renewable at the end of each year of ministry.
The lead team shall designate one member to be the team leader. The team leader shall commit to a one-year term. The team leader is responsible for organizing and conducting the quarterly or as-needed meetings and serves as a representative of the worship ministry on the ministry council.
